Employer Contributions

Enhanced Premium Contributions (EPC)

** Also known as Employer Contributions **

Employees designated by their employers as a New Inexperienced Miners (“NIM”) under the National Bituminous Coal Wage Agreements (“NBCWA”) of 2007 and 2011 are eligible for Enhanced Premium Contributions (“EPC”).

A NIM who entered the bituminous coal mining industry for the first time on or after January 1, 2007 and who does not have a State Miner’s Certificate dated prior to January 1, 2007 shall receive EPC from his employer to the CDSP based on classified hours worked as follows:

2012 through 2013 $1.00
2014 through 2016 $1.50

These individuals are not entitled to health care following their retirement except as a disabled employee or a pensioner receiving a disability retirement pension.

Supplemental Pension Contributions (SPC)

** Also known as Employer Contributions **

Supplemental Pension Contributions for New Inexperienced Miners Hired on or after January 1, 2012 (NIM2012)

Employees hired on or after January 1, 2012 and designated by their employers as a New Inexperienced Miners (“NIM”) under the NBCWA of 2011 are eligible for Supplemental Pension Contributions (“SPC”).

A NIM who entered the bituminous coal mining industry for the first time on or after January 1, 2012 (NIM2012) and who does not have a State Miner’s Certificate dated prior to January 1, 2007 shall receive SPC based on classified hours worked as follows:

Supplemental Pension Contributions with 20-years of Credited Service NIM 2012 Program (20YRSSUPP)

In accordance with the NBCWA, on or after January 1, 2012, any miner with 20-years of credited service or more shall receive SPC from the employer to the CDSP based on classified hours worked as follows:

Supplemental Pension Contributions for Electing Miner (EM)

In accordance with the NBCWA, any Electing Miner shall receive SPC from their Employers to the CDSP based on classified hours worked at the following rate:

​An Electing Miner will earn no more additional service and his opt-out date shall be his last day of credited service. An Electing Miner will continue to earn credit from the 1974 Pension Plan for the purpose of eligibility for vesting into pension benefits from the 1974 Pension Plan.

An Electing Miner who is not a NIM eligible for a monthly EPC, will also continue to earn vesting credit from the 1974 Pension Plan for purposes of eligibility for a Health Service card.
